Carports Gold Coast

Carports on the Gold Coast have to hold up in strong wind and salt air, and our shed builders build them for cars, boats, vans and caravans, freestanding or attached to your house or shed.

  • Cover Without Walls

With no walls, you mainly pay for the roof and the posts.

  • Attached or Freestanding

We join it to your house or shed, or build it on its own.

  • Sized for the Van

We set the height for your van or caravan as well as the car.

  • Strong Footings

We size the concrete under each post to hold the carport down in the wind.

A carport is the cheapest way to get a vehicle out of the sun and hail. With no walls to pay for, nearly all the cost goes into the roof and the posts holding it up. As carport builders, we build skillion carports, with a roof that slopes one way, gable carports, with a roof peaked in the middle, and double carports that fit two vehicles side by side.

How Our Carport Builders Get the Height Right

We measure what you're parking before we set the height. A car doesn't need much, but a van, a caravan with an air conditioner on top or a boat on a trailer needs a lot more.

Clear Height

Clear height is the height under the beam, which is lower than the roof sheets.

Span

The span is the gap between posts. A wider span needs a heavier beam but leaves fewer posts in your way.

Roof Style

The roof can be flat, a single slope or peaked in the middle, to match the building beside it.

Drainage

Gutters and downpipes take the water where it's meant to go, and away from the neighbour's fence.

Joining a Carport to Your House or Shed on the Gold Coast

Where the carport meets your house or shed, we fit flashing, a folded metal strip over the join. It makes the rain run over the existing roof, never under it.

Building Carports on the Gold Coast to Handle the Wind

We size the posts and footings to hold the roof down, because wind gets under a roof with no walls and tries to lift it.

We size the footings for your address and the span. The footings are where a light carport usually fails in a storm, so we size them for where it stands.

Our carport builders engineer the footings of every carport so the roof stays on in a storm.

What You Can Choose

Each of these changes the building, so it helps to think about them before we draw it up.

Bay Count

We build cover for one vehicle, or a row of bays side by side.

Enclosure

Leave it open, or clad one side for weather and privacy.

Roof Sheeting

The roof can be colour steel, or clear panels that let the light through.

Colour

We match the colour to the house or shed beside it.

Lighting

We can put a light under the roof on a switch or a sensor.

Water Tank

Run the roof water into a tank instead of a drain.

Common Questions About Carports

People usually ask us these before we price a carport.

  • Do I Need Approval for a Carport?

Usually, yes. The approval looks at the size, the height and how close it is to a boundary. For an attached carport, the certifier also checks where it joins the house or shed and how close that puts it to the boundary. Our shed builders handle that approval as part of the job.

    Approvals

  • How High Should a Carport Be for a Caravan?

Measure your van with everything on the roof, then add some clearance under the beam. Our carport builders set the height from that measurement.

    Sizing

  • Can You Attach a Carport to My Shed?

Often, yes, as long as your shed's frame can carry the extra load of the carport. We check that first.

    Structure

  • Should I Leave My Carport Open or Close One Side?

An open carport stays cooler and drains better. Closing in a side changes how the wind pushes on the frame, so we design that wall in from the start.

    Design

  • Does Living Near the Beach Change How You Build It?

Yes. Salt air near the beach is harder on steel than the air further inland, so we change the coating and the fixings. Standard fixings are usually the first thing to rust near the sea.

    Materials

  • What Does a Carport Slab Need to Do?

Two jobs: hold the posts down and carry the weight of your vehicle. Our shed builders size the footings to resist the wind lifting the roof, and the slab for whatever drives onto it.
