Farm Sheds Gold Coast

Farm sheds on Gold Coast and hinterland properties work best when the bays suit your machinery, hay and gear, and that is how our shed builders lay them out.

  • Bays Sized for Your Gear

We set the bay widths from your biggest machines.

  • Open, Enclosed or Both

Leave the bays open, lock them up, or mix the two under one roof.

  • Built for the Wind

We get every frame engineered for the wind at your property.

  • Rural Approvals

We check the boundary distances and bushfire rules that apply to your land.

Getting the access right is one of the most important parts of a farm shed. If you have to move the tractor every time you need another machine out, you lose that time every season for years. As farm shed builders, we build machinery sheds, hay sheds and other rural sheds on Gold Coast hinterland acreage, laid out around how your gear moves in and out.

Farm Sheds with Open Bays, Enclosed Bays or Both

We build farm sheds with open bays, enclosed bays or both. An open fronted shed is easy to drive in and out of and gives you the most cover for your money, but it catches a lot more wind, so we have the frame engineered to handle it. If you want a tall centre bay with lower bays down each side, look at American barn sheds.

Bay Width

We size it from your widest machine, plus room to swing it in without clipping a post.

Clear Height

The height at the lowest point, which is usually the beam over the opening and sits lower than the peak of the roof.

Awnings

A lean-to, a lower roof off one or both sides, adds cheap cover for smaller gear and bales.

Floor

Concrete where you'll work on machinery, and compacted gravel where you only park it.

What Goes Into Farm Sheds for Hay, Fertiliser and Machinery

We set each shed up for what goes in it. Hay needs height, airflow and a roof that keeps wind-blown rain off the stack. Fertiliser needs a sealed floor and a wash-down area, and machinery needs wide doors and room to turn.

We check the setbacks, the distance a shed has to sit from the boundary. On acreage there is usually room to meet them. Bushfire overlays (council maps of fire risk), flood levels and the distance to a creek can apply instead.

Bringing power, water and an access track to the shed is part of the job, so we price them in at the start.

What You Can Choose

Each of these changes the building, so it helps to think about them before we draw it up.

Bay Layout

We set the number and width of the bays from your machinery.

Water Tanks

Gutters sized to fill a tank from the roof.

Daylight

Clear roof panels light the bays without power.

Lockable Bay

One enclosed bay you can lock for tools, fuel and chemicals.

Wash Down

A sealed floor and a drain where you clean your gear.

Colour

Pick a colour that blends into the paddock or matches the house.

Common Questions About Farm and Rural Sheds

People usually ask us these before we price a shed.

  • Do I Need Approval for a Farm Shed?

Usually, yes. It depends on the size, the height and how close the shed is to the boundaries. Rural zoning can allow a bigger shed, depending on the zone, and we check the rules for your land before we draw your farm shed.

    Approvals

  • Can You Build a Shed on a Sloping Paddock?

Yes. On a slope we do cut and fill, which means moving soil from the high side to the low side to make a level pad. Sometimes we add a retaining wall too.

    Site

  • How High Does My Machinery Shed Need to Be?

Measure your tallest machine with the cab or the bin raised, then add clearance for the beam over the door. We set the height from that.

    Sizing

  • What Does a Farm Shed Slab Need to Handle?

Whatever drives onto it. We slope it slightly towards the openings so water runs out in heavy rain, and make it thicker where the machinery drives in.

    Site

  • Which Way Should the Open Side Face?

Think about the weather, the afternoon sun and how your machinery comes up to the shed. We go through it with you before we draw the shed.

    Design

  • Does the Steel Need a Different Coating for Fertiliser or Salt Air?

It can. Fertiliser, chemicals and salt air all eat into steel, each at a different rate. If your shed will store any of them, we choose the coating and fixings to suit.

    Materials

  • Is an Open Fronted Shed Engineered Differently?

Yes. Wind gets in through an open front, builds up pressure inside and pushes up on the roof. Our shed builders get open bays engineered for that from the start.
